The browser itself is an interesting application. Statistics show that 59% of the average Windows user’s time is spent on a browser. However, rather than using the functionality of the browser itself the users are spending all their time on websites and web-applications like Facebook. For this reason the interface designers have created a very streamlined user experience with IE9. The browser is the theater not the play.

Fast

The web is becoming more visual and interactive than ever before. Web applications are fast becoming as feature-rich as desktop applications. Browsers need to be not only fast to deliver stunning visuals but powerful to handle dynamic and rich content. Internet Explorer 9 utilizes the full power of your PC by harnessing multi-core processors and Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). This connection to your PC hardware provides an experience that rivals most desktop applications. With GPUs on most computers running Vista or Windows 7, Internet Explorer brings that power to the web.

Besides utilizing more of your computer hardware, the team at Microsoft has taken great strides in improving the performance of Internet Explorer. One of the popular JavaScript benchmarks is the WebKit SunSpider test.
